eidolon ink - image of an ideal ]
"i asked him a flurry of shocked questions. "did you put
a jimmy on? was it the girl's first time?" anything that could
possibly account for his lack of enthusiasm for it. yes he put a jimmy
on, no it wasn't her first time. of course, the fault lies with her
then. what kind of girl is she? she's supposed to make sure my little
brother's first time is fabulous. still, i'm disturbed by his lack
of enthusiasm for it. this defies everything i know about men. how
come i'm the one who got the sex drive in the family? even more disturbing
- which one of my parents do i take after? what do you do as a parent
when you end up with two kids - and the son is the one feeling lackadaisical
about sex?" |

technicolor - you think it's like this, but it's really like this
]
(discussing taking a number from a guy)
"i might have called, you know, as a potential friend, if the
very act of calling didn't imply a whole slew of things. social interaction
is all coded. i've disentangled myself from enough dates in platonic-sheep's
clothing to know when somebody is hiding a romanticish thing in ambiguous
language. i can barely hear it, but i can: a bomb ticking softly in
a suitcase made of sentences." |

single spaced - a woman with a mission and a past to outdo ]
"today i went to build a bear workshop for the first time and
made myself a lion. i stuffed her with eleven brave hearts cause eleven
is my lucky number and i wanted to make sure she'd survive through
all the mending every time she got her heart broken. i wanted to make
sure she still had enough hearts to love the folks who deserved it,
even while a few of her hearts could be recuperating. i dressed her
up in a blue cheerleader outfit cause blue's my favorite color and
i needed a tangible cheerleader i could take around everywhere i went.
and i gave her some shell toes to keep it old school." |

transcended - politics & life all mixed together ]
the very first blog i religiously followed and admired, i've been
following joyce's thoughts since she was an undergrad at ucla. it
was then that she first started serving up a double dose of exactly
what she advertises -- politics, life and love all mixed together.
it's always interesting for me to get the perspective of someone with
such strong political convictions and personal investment in our country,
even if i often disagree with what side of the line she stands on.
but having watched her from afar for so long, it lends rational perspective
to where she's coming from in all issues and situations. |

i go see her weekly and theres a tingle in my spine from the
bottom up to the back of my neck that gives me goose bumps and forces
my hands to shake when i drive up the freeway and see the noble lights
of the financial district buildings next to the lights of the bay
bridge.... i will prove my love to her, and we will be together one
day." |

i have writer's blog- the procrastination station]
"way back when, let's say, oh, 1989, you had very simple criteria
in your life. you hung out with friends who entertained you. you found
ways to amuse yourself that honed in on your talents. you made tape
mixes and swapped them with other kids, having already screened said
friends for their musical taste. it wasn't considered weird to filter
people out of your life based on their (allegedly) shitty taste in
music. importantly, it wasn't uncalled for to screen people out for
*lacking* their own taste in music. you did what you wanted to. oh,
and what your parents wanted, because they paid the bills." |

boy girl party ]
illustrator, rollerskater, ice cream eater, musician, letter-writer,
animator, fontographer, koala, loner, lemonade pusher. the brains
behind boygirlparty is susie g and she makes terms like "renaissance
woman" and "army of one" seem useless and constricting.
susie has style oozing out of every pore and it shows in her music,
her art, her likes, her dislikes, her kit and her caboodle. i really
can't say anything more. i've used up all the synonyms i know for
"everything." just trust me, susie is everything. |

"one strange benefit of a citywide blackout is that for once, i can see stars in the sky. normally the light pollution renders them invisible, but now they peek down at me cheekily. almost like they’re bragging, the little bastards. 'look at me. i'm a gaseous ball of energy many solar systems away, completely independent of con edison.' looking down the street i see occasional pinpoints of orange light: people here and there having cigarettes on their fire escapes. an anti-smoking sniper could have a field day out here." |

"there are variations of what can be said; if it were meant to
be. what will happen, will happen. if these are your friends, then
ever will remain. but fate is not so chaotic. distance like time is
a damning thing; sours the wine and stales the bread. there are ways
to align the stars for happy coincidences and mine have been aligned
to begin anew, borrowing on decisions from those who love me most.
i wonder if i should be strong enough to make it through, to never
blame if there be failings; if i will keep the old and see the new.
will the folks ive moved for be content with what gains are
gained?" |

year after year, little yellow different has been voted "most
humorous weblog." or was that "best glbt weblog." both
actually. ernie from the bay is not only a technogeek but also homosexual
and chinese. and if that doesn't sound like a recipe for hilarity,
then his penchant for sharing humorous and gay tidbits about his everyday
life should reel you in. plus he's been on "who wants to be a
millionaire" so that makes him my personal hero. |

(teaching a fifteen-year-old hispanic busboy american swear
words)
daniel: what is "fuckin' a"?
me: well, it can mean a lot of things. sometimes you
say it when you're surprised, or when something really bad or good
happens. like if you got into harvard and you came up to me and said,
"hey alison, i got into harvard!" i'd say, "fuckin' a! that's awesome!"
you can kind of say it with anything.
daniel: alison is fuckin' a!
me: no, no, it's not an adjective! |

couch banshee - not just another krispy kreme donut ]
"people will go to great lengths in order to hold on to relationships.
they'll change, they'll promise to change, they'll walk on tiptoes,
they'll walk on water, they'll quit smoking, they'll start smoking,
they'll wear different clothes, they'll cut their hair, they'll grow
their hair out, they'll put blush on their nipples, they'll lie, they'll
pretend, they'll fake smile, they'll compromise, they'll sacrifice....
if people put the same amount of blood, sweat and tears into changing
the world rather than changing themselves to fit relationships, would
the world be a better place? or would the world be the same, only
inhabited by people in need of love and affection?" |
